Shut off emergency klaxon!" She barked, before adding. "It's not going to make a damn difference," she adds with a muttered curse.

The computer obeyed, but the emergency wasn't any less dire. The Anubis had encountered something she hoped never to see again.

Void Spiders aren't really spiders, and the vortex she's jumping the ship through isn't a void. It's more like a Tipler Cylinder, only with physics that even 24th century scientists still grasp to comprehend. But, all things being relative - especially when traveling through space-time - whatever is chasing the vessel is very much a predator and this vortex might not have a way out before the spider makes its final, fatal dive. "Might," is also, more like, "absolute certainty." The first jump she avoided - barely.

"We don't have enough people left aboard to make the corrections!" comes a cry from the back of the bridge.

The wayward captain leaps from the command chair to the ops panel as more of her red curls try to escape the confinement of her chignon. If she could just divert power from the engines long enough -

Too late. The cockpit fills with searing white energy -

- only it's not disaster which befalls the crew.

comments

This specimen is - perhaps the best word this far into Romulan space is "de-cloaked." This she-wolf built of par-steel shifts with the ease of someone used to danger, but not used to explaining it to plebeians. Captain Ray climbs on top of what used to be part of the ceiling and makes the debris a kind of podium.

"We're pressed to the cliff-side, and you know that. But you don't know how deep the water is or how sharp the rocks are at the bottom." Her eyes dart between everyone, lingering on faces and assessing their use. "The thing is, I do."

A slow murmur engulfs the crowd of the 104 remaining crew. Some voices are hopeful; others angry. Hours have been spent on diagnosis. Hours that could have been spent trying to escape. Some of those who think the captain has wasted time to attempt such a thing are mollified when she finishes her explanation.

"This is a Mobius Storm; an ulcer in time-space folding in on itself. It is so strong that attempting to rip the ship from it won't just kill us, but it is possible to create a larger rift in space-time itself since the construction of engines tend to make such a phenomena more destructive. These kind of wounds in space-time have been increasing. Some of you know that." A wry grimace slinks across her features. "Though that's not supposed to be common knowledge, but it should factor into your decision-making. What we all know is that Starfleet has ordered us not to fight such events. We are to attempt escape in shuttlecraft, or just stay and hope the storm is sated with our lives and machinery."

"And if you manage to get back to Federation space from the hell that is our current location know that you did your duty, broke no laws, and everything expected of you has been completed. If you are captured, Romulans rarely kill their Federation prisoners - at least in the physical sense."

"There is another way. I will be staying on the ship, but not to die. I will be using the knowledge I have of the Anubis and my knowledge of space-time to navigate this storm and come out in some other place and time. I do this knowing I will likely never come back from this in any meaningful way, and even if I do, I will be subject to one of the few death penalty offenses Starfleet has on the books. I'm not doing this out of spite, or because I value my own life above the law. I do this because I may be able to stop the storms for good. You see, my service record is a forgery and, much as they hate to admit it, the galaxy should not revolve around the desires of my former associates in Section 31."

"I have made this choice, not as a Captain, but as a citizen of the galaxy who can do something about a given situation. I do this because The United Federation of Planets isn't about orders. It's about exploration and offering those who can't a fighting chance. It about the ache in my bones saying there is a better way and to wear a Starfleet uniform was to champion that way."

"If you too experience that damnable creaking in your bones when more and more ships are pulled from exploration to guard this or that boarder. Or when treaties are made without consideration of colonists, or worse, natives. If you feel that bone spur of obvious lies about outcomes from Command. If you are subject to those sharp stabs in your mind that whisper that whatever you joined this organization for, this isn't it. I offer you the path of exile, but it's also one of hope and exploration."

"Now, if anyone feels like arresting me now, I won't stop you. If you want to board the shuttlecraft and take yourself back to the known universe, please do so before 2100 hours. But if you came on the Anubis to explore - to boldly go where no one has gone before - and to stand up for the lives of those in the galaxy, then stay onboard. I have already loaded the formula into the ship's engines and set it to a locked position in such a way that I alone will take the blame for the jump through time-space. You have 2 hours to decide - stay, fight, and disobey - or leave, make a run for it, and keep your honor in the eyes of a Federation who treasures that kind of devotion."

The captain climbs down from her makeshift podium into the waiting arms of security. "Two hours," she reminds them.

comments

While it's true she knows something about this temporal storm they don't, she's not inclided to share. The choice before her is simple: Silence would condemn her crew of misfits and disposible people to an honorable death. They would even send back some useful information to Starfleet before their demise. The other choice means dishonor and a kind of insanity she had hoped she'd left behind, but death would be a running fight.

Is it right of her to offer the option? Desperate people do things they regret. Things they can't take back.

"There was a time where the choice of a Starfleet officer was always to fight," she tells the clock with the fatigue of the binary option seeping into her voice. "Look where it landed us." Captain Ray looks into the vast, starless black and yellow swirl of the storm; a shattered holodeck dripping the toxic ink of displaced time into reality.

comments

below for more details.)

In order to open things up for experienced Legacy players and introduce new ones, we'll be open to all types of characters from across the Trek timeline. This will mean cooperation from players in sorting out rank, ship position, and other things will be extremely important - and it comes down to it, I will make a final ruling on such things. It won’t be tolerated simply because it can’t be and keep the game functional.

Basically, we're fixing Trek's timeline. This means events may change from how they were shown on the series or some points of background may change if it makes better sense.

All Roddenberry universe characters except the ones listed in the comments are open.

"Roddenberry characters," mean old school, no JJ Abrams Trek. (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT) Please no brand spanking new Trek either - though I will take Axanar characters.

Why? I want to return to a less action-heavy, more issue-centric and canon-oriented Trek. Also, new Trekkers - you guys will have your solo games and jamjars and such with the new series and movies coming out.

That said, ANYTHING from that span of the Trek timeline is in play! Characters who were on the show once? Sure! Special guest stars? Bring 'em. Someone from the books, comics, RPG lines, or some other EU source? Probably okay, but I'll have to make sure everything works together, so run 'em by me.

Since this game also deals in "when" - please let me know when from the timeline your character has been ripped and deposited here. Episode names and character moments are useful.

If they are an alternate version, like say, "Mirror, Mirror," or a parallel timeline, like "Yesterday's Enterprise," please note that, and be prepared to write a bit more on how alternate they are from the character we love.

PLEASE NOTE: if your character's canon point is past Nemesis timeline wise, (the MMO, some of the books), then your character's canon might be unique to them due to being in a unstable part of the timeline. We'll work out something.

OCs are encouraged, However, OCs will likely die if the player leaves without retiring them or otherwise writing them out, as they can’t be “taken over” by another player like a Trek character. (Giving another player permission to play them is also acceptable.)

All OC should be built to have connections to some organization within the existing universe. No adapting an anime character to be a clueless newbie on board the ship.

OC should come in with in-universe baggage - deaths, black marks on careers, powerful and unscrupulous family members, enemies in high places, stints as a slave, and/or just plain old not fitting in. Add at least two ongoing plot hooks to your write-up.

If you were on the crew of the USS Anubis, consider yourself still on board (with two exceptions, whom I will speak to privately.)

If you want to play a "villain" or someone not in Starfleet/proto-Starfleet, that's probably doable, but there are some characters that need to stay villainous. ProTips: If you're a Klingon, good or bad, you're probably fine. However, at least one good guy won't be as they appear.

Recruitment is going to be "invite, plus one or two." Meaning, if you are a Legacy Player already or someone who has recieved an invite from an admin, you are approved. No app required. If you have been recruited, then you may invite 1-2 other players you believe would fit in here. Those 1-2 will not be able to invite more until we are more established.

If your plus one is used to jamjars, dressing rooms, and games which have minimal consequences then I want to talk them first. It's not that I don't trust your judgment. It's that I run games that aren't that brand of casual. Think of this more like a bunch of personal storyline RPs being moved along due to extreme circumstances even by Trek universe standards.

I don't expect you to have an encyclopedia-level knowledge of Trek. I do expect you to canon review your characters and maybe some episodes of books if they deal with your character, your character's culture, etc. and to ask if you don't know.

A starting game with a lot of new players requires a large amount of goodwill and openness. The same rules in the Legacy FAQ about passive aggression firmly apply here.

Most Legacy Tales games have a "no OCs unless you play a canon character first" rule. This will not apply to this games.

Please do not bring in an OC you hope to have published someday. It's not going to work out for anyone involved.

However, if you desire to pick up a character in another Legacy Tales game, new players here must ask and abide by the request of the admin team for those games and I will be excuse myself from those decisions just to keep everything fair.

Even though content on the main com will stick to PG-13, all players need to be 18+. Sorry, we cannot make exceptions on that.

There will be no activity checks - ever.

That said, everything will be read by at least one other person.

Players are expected to be active participants in advocating for their characters and overseeing their long-term development.

If you are new, please eventually read the FAQ applied to the universe in terms of time being out of whack. Nothing anyone would notice unless you were the kind of quantum physicist who would notice and have access to the statistical data...and actually grasp time being relative while being in it.

In fact, time has gotten looped. Right now, it's a pretty big loop - around 350-400 years, but it's shrinking - and fast. Within a generation, everyone subject to the effects of time will be trapped like insects in amber.

The various Intelligence agencies have been keeping a tight lid on the subject, though one of their number, Captain Jules Ray, has broken her silence and gone rogue.

More details are available on request, but it will be spoiler-city and subject to change based on character actions.

Section 31 is not your friend. The Department of Temporal Investigations is, at best, the janitorial staff. At worst, they're like those "civilian" Another nightmare.

"Lights, low," he ordered, and he slipped out the side of his bed. He looked back, almost half-expecting to see his mates lying there again. But no… this bed was only large enough for one.

He stepped to the sink and rinsed his face. That wasn't how the event had happened, of course… not exactly. He hadn't regained consciousness until after the Falconer was gone. Until his whole family was gone.

Sometimes, the nightmares were different. Sometimes, they were closer to reality - waiting at the station, as the shuttlecraft and other surviving lifepods disembarked, as faces of the crew of the Falconer wandered by, somehow familiar yet strangely distant and alien, as he waited for his two other spouses or his child to come through, in an endless haze of not knowing if his family lived. But they never disembarked; it was just neverending lines of people he didn't really recognize anymore, who started to blend together. He was the only member of his family that had survived the destruction of the USS Falconer.

He was an Andorian without a family.

That wasn't strictly true, of course. He was still part of the Kor clan. But he lost his mates. He lost his son. He even lost his unborn child. To an Andorian, this was almost like death.

But Iyran Kor refused to lie down and die. He would survive the loss of his spouses… they deserved as much.

He checked the chrono. No, he certainly wasn't going to bother trying to get some more sleep. He dressed, then stepped out of his temporary quarters. His shuttle would be taking him to his new vessel within four hours, along with a few others who were still arriving. He might as well look around this station one last time before he goes.

After all, if Mirin Ivos had his way, this would be the last Federation space station he'd ever set foot on.

comments

This clock isn't accurate and this bothers her. The boots come closer, but she puts them out of her mind. She tilts her head to get rid of a stray red strand in her line of sight. There it is! A single gear with a single tooth bent just slightly out of alignment. It's caused the whole workings of this mechanism to slow. Were it not corrected - set right - other gears would have come undone. Such a simple thing would have damaged this antique to the point of hopeless disrepair unless it were recast with all new pieces.

Resets were one thing. Turning it on and off again was likely as old as the history of mechanical things in the known universe. That fix focused on the outcome more than the why - and such thinking had its limits. Replacements were all too common in a social order which did not tend to understand "want" after centuries of working towards its eventual eradication. The agent knew want as a cruel master. It limited her desire to rewrite her will on broken things by discarding them and pretending the new item had been there all along. This left repairs. Repairs, however, were tricky. They required finesse. They needed knowledge and tools. Worst of all in the minds of many, repairs took time that replicators and simple solutions did not. Time was, after all, the most precious commodity in the universe.

An ancient pair of pliers gently nudges the broken tooth back into place. The boots are louder now. About 15 meters away. Whoever it is will check in with the guard, open her cell and take her to the Hall shortly - but not before one more thing is put back into place.

The murmurs stop. The boots begin again. Step...Step..Step...

The clock ticks with gratitude as she replaces its back.

Step...Step...

Her screwdriver begins twisting to the right.

Step...

Here's the last screw and it's being thread back into place. Right on time. She looks up to see her escort - and she feels something she doesn't feel often - surprise.

"You're supposed to be elsewhere."

comments

She moved in front of Commanders Data and Riker. This being was hostile and she could be just as unfriendly. "We have people who need attention. We won't hurt you, but we must help them!" Before she finished her statement, she was on the move.

comments

They just wanted to do whatever it took to get to know people, and maybe have a glass of tranya. They'd been at it a long, long time, and ... wow. Was it getting a little heated in Alpha Quadrant relations these days, or was it just them? People needed to sit down and talk about things. But first, tranya for everyone!

So the First Federation -- no relation! -- was playing host to a massive peace conference. Everyone was invited. And they meant everyone, even sending a sixty-seven-page invitation to the Sheliak Corporate, even though they knew them well enough to know they'd be getting a thirty-eight page regrets letter back. They'd read it, too. They were neighborly like that. Speaking of neighbors, they supposed they'd need to invite the Ferengi. And speaking of precision-minded xenophobes, the Tholians would probably come. They'd make up their rooms specially sealed off. The Breen's as well.

And then there were the major concerns: The United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, and what was left of the the Cardassian Union. But why stop there? The Miradorn. The Gorn. The Caldonians, just in case something they cared about was involved. Make an opportunity for all sorts of voices to be heard.

It was nice to be above the fray and also have sufficient firepower to enforce the peace on your own stations no matter what else was parked outside.

comments
