This is a basic draft of the rules for some new Legacy Tales games which will actively recruit new members to our ranks.

This game will feature time travel, involved Trek universe politics, a metaplot to drive the action.  (See "Plot" below for more details.)

  • In order to open things up for experienced Legacy players and introduce new ones, we'll be open to all types of characters from across the Trek timeline.  This will mean cooperation from players in sorting out rank, ship position, and other things will be extremely important - and it comes down to it, I will make a final ruling on such things.  It won’t be tolerated simply because it can’t be and keep the game functional.
  • Basically, we're fixing Trek's timeline.  This means events may change from how they were shown on the series or some points of background may change if it makes better sense.
  • All Roddenberry universe characters except the ones listed in the comments are open.
    • "Roddenberry characters," mean old school, no JJ Abrams Trek.  (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT) Please no brand spanking new Trek either - though I will take Axanar characters.
    • Why?  I want to return to a less action-heavy, more issue-centric and canon-oriented Trek.  Also, new Trekkers - you guys will have your solo games and jamjars and such with the new series and movies coming out.
    • That said, ANYTHING from that span of the Trek timeline is in play!  Characters who were on the show once?  Sure!  Special guest stars?  Bring 'em.  Someone from the books, comics, RPG lines, or some other EU source?  Probably okay, but I'll have to make sure everything works together, so run 'em by me.
  • Since this game also deals in "when" - please let me know when from the timeline your character has been ripped and deposited here.  Episode names and character moments are useful.
  • If they are an alternate version, like say, "Mirror, Mirror," or a parallel timeline, like "Yesterday's Enterprise," please note that, and be prepared to write a bit more on how alternate they are from the character we love.
  • PLEASE NOTE: if your character's canon point is past Nemesis timeline wise, (the MMO, some of the books), then your character's canon might be unique to them due to being in a unstable part of the timeline.  We'll work out something.
  • OCs are encouraged, However, OCs will likely die if the player leaves without retiring them or otherwise writing them out, as they can’t be “taken over” by another player like a Trek character.  (Giving another player permission to play them is also acceptable.)
    • All OC should be built to have connections to some organization within the existing universe.  No adapting an anime character to be a clueless newbie on board the ship.
    • OC should come in with in-universe baggage - deaths, black marks on careers, powerful and unscrupulous family members, enemies in high places, stints as a slave, and/or just plain old not fitting in.  Add at least two ongoing plot hooks to your write-up.
    • If you were on the crew of the USS Anubis, consider yourself still on board (with two exceptions, whom I will speak to privately.)
  • If you want to play a "villain" or someone not in Starfleet/proto-Starfleet, that's probably doable, but there are some characters that need to stay villainous.  ProTips: If you're a Klingon, good or bad, you're probably fine.  However, at least one good guy won't be as they appear.
  • Recruitment is going to be "invite, plus one or two."  Meaning, if you are a Legacy Player already or someone who has recieved an invite from an admin, you are approved.  No app required.  If you have been recruited, then you may invite 1-2 other players you believe would fit in here.  Those 1-2 will not be able to invite more until we are more established.
    • If your plus one is used to jamjars, dressing rooms, and games which have minimal consequences then I want to talk them first.  It's not that I don't trust your judgment.  It's that I run games that aren't that brand of casual.  Think of this more like a bunch of personal storyline RPs being moved along due to extreme circumstances even by Trek universe standards.
    • I don't expect you to have an encyclopedia-level knowledge of Trek.  I do expect you to canon review your characters and maybe some episodes of books if they deal with your character, your character's culture, etc. and to ask if you don't know.
    • A starting game with a lot of new players requires a large amount of goodwill and openness. The same rules in the Legacy FAQ about passive aggression firmly apply here.
  • Most Legacy Tales games have a "no OCs unless you play a canon character first" rule.  This will not apply to this games.
    • Please do not bring in an OC you hope to have published someday.  It's not going to work out for anyone involved.
    • However, if you desire to pick up a character in another Legacy Tales game, new players here must ask and abide by the request of the admin team for those games and I will be excuse myself from those decisions just to keep everything fair.
    • Even though content on the main com will stick to PG-13, all players need to be 18+.  Sorry, we cannot make exceptions on that.
    • There will be no activity checks - ever.
    • That said, everything will be read by at least one other person.
    • Players are expected to be active participants in advocating for their characters and overseeing their long-term development.
    • If you are new, please eventually read the FAQ and standard Legacy Tales rules.
  • Plot
    • Metaplot
      • Someone or something has been tinkering with the quantum strings which make most sentient beings experience time.  The Guardian of Forever has gone silent and others, like the Prophets and the Q are very nervous.  (Yes, the Temporal Cold War in Enterprise is part of this, but that's one section of a big problem.)
      • There's been a growing number of "patches" applied to the universe in terms of time being out of whack.  Nothing anyone would notice unless you were the kind of quantum physicist who would notice and have access to the statistical data...and actually grasp time being relative while being in it.
      • In fact, time has gotten looped.  Right now, it's a pretty big loop - around 350-400 years, but it's shrinking - and fast.  Within a generation, everyone subject to the effects of time will be trapped like insects in amber.
      • The various Intelligence agencies have been keeping a tight lid on the subject, though one of their number, Captain Jules Ray, has broken her silence and gone rogue.
      • More details are available on request, but it will be spoiler-city and subject to change based on character actions.
      • Section 31 is not your friend.  The Department of Temporal Investigations is, at best, the janitorial staff.  At worst, they're like those "civilian" NPCs in video games that stand in the crossfire.
    • Other plots
      • We will have ships in a barely explored portion of the galaxy and will be doing classic alien/issue of the week stories.
      • Ship-wide events will happen from time to time.
      • A whole lot of personal and small team storyline stuff to fit into the bigger plot.

And finally an offer, or warning, depending on how you look at it.  I promise everyone, and I do mean everyone, will get crowning moments of awesome, but there's a certain set of characters who are needed to pull off the metaplot and as a result are going to get some BIG moments.  The one drawback is that, sometimes, your character will suffer for it, and some of these effects won't just disappear when the immediate plot wraps.  (I might also need you to have your character do something specific for a plot point, but I will work with you to make this as in character as possible.)  The following characters will have some big moments.

  • TOS:  James T. Kirk, Spock, Nyota Uhura, Christine Chapel
  • TNG:  Data, Wesley Crusher
  • ENT:  Trip Tucker, T'Pol, Jonathan Beckett Archer
  • DS9:  Odo, Julian Bashir, Elim Garrick
  • VOY: Tom Paris and probably more pending canon review.
  • Any OC stupid/brave enough to have been on the 1701-C.
  • Anyone who has a character who is highly involved with politics or connected to a politically involved family.
  • Anyone closely connected to the Borg or any Intelligence agency - especially the Tal Shiar or (Gods help you) Section 31.
  • Members of the extended Soong clan - human, cybernetic, or (possibly) engineered.
  • Races other than the really common ones we saw on the shows.  Looking to give extra love to them.

grew_the_beard: (Command)
From: [personal profile] grew_the_beard
Character Name: William Riker
Affilation & Rank (if applicable): Starfleet. Commander. First Officer of the USS Enterprise-D
Canon Point: I'm flexible, but I am looking at sometime between Parallels and The Pegasus. Specifically, I'd like to see "The Pegasus" where Riker gets a call during "Parallels," hops in a shuttle and gets caught in the same crazy Worf did - and then landed here.

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies:

* The stuff with Troi is kind of the stuff of legends. At this point, he is noticing a decay in orbit as it were. Best friends? Sure. Anything more? Damn if he knows anything and he's noticing that he's starting to become, by his standand risk-avoidant. He hates that.

* Riker has more interesting than Jawas have spare parts. The Enterprise crew has very little idea just how many of his better angels have been made manifest there. It's not like Riker could be talked into overtly unethical things before joining the crew, but he was seriously ambitious and could be convinced in many "ends justify the means," situations. The Pegasus incident is probably the best example of this.

* Oh, and to answer the question on TV Tropes about Riker's seeming to pass on perfectly good commands, despite his insistance on getting a command. 1) While it's not conscious at all, other commands lack Troi - 2) Or many other people he's sure would bring out his best. And finally, the reason he actually will admit to (grudgingly, if you were to dip him in truth serum): Command alone is not enough. He wants to do something solidly meaningful with his command and, in some way, move the UFP forward through his actions. Fame would be nice, but he really just wants to die having done something actually, hands-down important with his life.

* This is what you get when you have an asshole dad. Though, there's more than just Admiral Kyle Riker behind this drive.

Unfulifilled Business:

* All of the above, plus the soon-to-go rogue Thomas Riker. Speaking of which, I would like to have a more of the courtship in Imazadi than the one in "Second Chances" if the Troi player has read the novel and is amendable.

* He may have been being scoped out by Section 31 as a potential agent.

If they could change two (or more) moments in time...

* Damn, does the stuff with Deanna occationally just bug him, but he's happy with his choices. Really.

* He very comfortable with what he has done to get where he is. I'd like to shake that certainty and see what comes loose.

Canon Crew Registration: Trip Tucker

Date: 2016-05-10 05:37 pm (UTC)
tript: (Default)
From: [personal profile] tript
Character Name: Charles 'Trip' Tucker III
Affiliation & Rank (if applicable): Starfleet. Commander. Chief Engineer of Enterprise NX-01
Canon Point: Enterprise: A year after the penultimate season 4 episode, Terra Prime (ignoring book canon). It's early on in the Romulan War.

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies:
- Worked on the warp 2 project. In order to stop Starfleet shutting the project down, on the recommendation of the Vulcans, assisted Archer and AG Robinson to steal the NX-Beta.

- Spent some time as an orbital engineer

- Set up movie night on Enterprise

- Managed to become the first human male to get pregnant (the embryo was transferred not long after)

- Interfered with the Vissian culture to 'free' the cogenitor and attempt to teach the Vissians that they're just as intelligent as the other two genders. His interference led to the cogenitor committing suicide.

- When the Xindi attack Earth, his younger sister, Elizabeth (aka Lizzie), is among the 7 million killed.

- In not dealing with his sister's death, became even more of an insomniac and workaholic than usual. Phlox and T'Pol manipulated him into tryng Vulcan neuro-pressure. Which cured his insomnia and led to Trip and T'Pol slowly and unsteadily beginning a romantic relationship.

- Met an Enterprise from an alternate time line where he and T'Pol married and had a son, Lorian.

- Was injured saving Enterprise and was himself saved by a mimetic clone, Sim.

- His relationship with T'Pol was ended when she married Kos. At which point he realised he was in love with her. When her marriage was annulled, but she just wanted to be friends he couldn't deal with it and transferred to the Columbia. But he returned to Enterprise not long after because he missed his friends, the engineers on Columbia didn't like him much, he kept returning to Enterprise to solve their problems, and because he found he and T'Pol had a psychic bond (and maybe he could handle whatever their relationship or lack of might be)

- The far right group, Terra Prime, created a binary cloned baby using his and T'Pol's DNA (they named her Elizabeth, after Trip's sister). Although they rescued her, there had been a flaw in the method used to create her and she died shortly after. At which point Trip and T'Pol's relationship reverted back to just friendship.

Unfulfilled Business:
- T'Pol

- After losing a daughter, he really wants more children in the future

- Those warp engines can always be fine tuned a bit more to get a bit more out of them

- Earth's reaction to aliens since the Xindi attack, and Terra Prime. He hates their attitude and wishes humans in general were more forgiving and realise that not all aliens are bad (even though this is somewhat hypocritical, given his reactions to Xindi in season 3, and led somewhat by his relationship with T'Pol, which wouldn't be accepted on Vulcan or Earth)

- The Romulans: who they are, what they want and how to make them go away again

- In general he's pretty happy with where he is, but he's never going to pass up a chance to get a look at a faster warp engine.

If they could change two (or more) moments in time...
- Save his sister and the 7 million who died in the Xindi attack. Although what happened did have its benefits to other races, so given the option he may or may not prevent the attack and save the 7 million, but would definitely save his sister.

- Somehow make it so baby Elizabeth lived - although there's probably nothing that can be changed there.

Canon Crew Registration: Captain James T. Kirk

Date: 2016-05-23 11:28 pm (UTC)
original_fine: (special: dat ass)
From: [personal profile] original_fine
Character Name: James Tiberius Kirk
Affilation & Rank (if applicable): Starfleet, Captain of the USS Enterprise
Canon Point: Probably near the end of the 5-year mission, roundabout "Tunrabout, Intruder" or or "All Our Yesterdays." Open to suggestions if something else would work better.

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies:

*The Trifecta: Kirk/Spock/Bones. Can't talk about Kirk without Spock, can we? And McCoy's not far after. Between the three of them, they achieve a sort of balance, iconic not only in the annals of Starfleet history but our own pop culture. Kirk is where logic and heart meet, but Spock and McCoy offer external voices for the inner struggle Kirk goes through as a leader, and a man.

*The ship. Kirk's relationship with the Enterprise seems to supplant one with a romantic partner. I would argue that between his devotion to duty and his close relationship with his crew, he has no time for romance, and perhaps no real need of it. For now.

*Women. A lot's been made--in pop culture, not on the show--about Kirk and women. I submit several contextualizing and contradicting facts:

1. He refuses outright to get involved with his crew (see: Helen Noel)
2. He tends to get into romantic/sexual situations when it furthers his purpose of getting the ship/crew out of danger
3. Most of the women we hear about or meet with whom he has had a relationship are on good terms with him. There's the lawyer, Lt. Areel Shaw, Ruth, Carol Marcus... these relationships did not last, but they seem to have ended not a little because both parties had careers which took priority. Mutually. The major exception is Janice Lester, but she's also pretty emotionally disturbed by the time we meet her.

*Interesting moments? Where to begin? Until the show Enterprise, Kirk represented the foundational narrative for all of Star Trek. Please ask me if you need more on this.

*Enemies: I'd say the Klingons come to mind. Kirk's fought a lot of aliens and stuff, but the Klingons represent an interesting detente between their Empire and the Federation, and Kirk's at the heart of that. Then there's what happens later, with his son... Definitely future Klingons remember Kirk well, as many of the later series characters had direct dealings with him.

Unfulifilled Business:

*Coming from near the end of the five-year mission, after which he's fairly certain his crew will get promoted out and he'll get stuck behind a desk, Kirk's dealing with a fair bit of ambivalence towards that ending. He's grown to love his crew, he relies on his emotional connection to Spock, and his "first, best destiny" is as the captain of a ship, not a junior admiral.

*David Marcus. Carol and Kirk had a thing years before, and when Carol found herself pregnant (I have no idea why this happened, it's the future, birth control what?) she asked Jim to stay away. Jim has.

*Conflict between having a life/having a command. Kirk's given up everything else for Starfleet. Is it enough?

*If he's whisked away from his own command, he'll struggle with two things: how his people are doing, and what use he is. He needs to be active and useful.

If they could change two (or more) moments in time...

*Killing Gary Mitchell. (See: "Where No Man Has Gone Before") His best friend from the Academy, Kirk was forced to end his life when Gary's latent ESPer abilities blossomed and power overtake his good sense and compassion.

*The famine on Tarsus IV. He was 13/14, and still feels, occasionally, the powerlessness of being a boy while people around him died and were massacred.

*In general, though, Kirk tends to be pragmatic. I think given the choice, he'd leave even painful moments alone because that is history and the consequences of changing it can be disastrous. This is no more clearly illustrated than in "City on the Edge of Forever," where Kirk was forced to let a woman he loved, Edith Keeler, die because to prevent it would lead to victory by the Nazis during WWII.

Character Name: Lore
Affilation & Rank (if applicable): Himself. Supreme high-leader.
Canon Point: After being shot and shut down. His last words were, "I love you... brother..."

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies:

* His best friend and worst enemy is his younger brother, Data. He will also recognize Lal as an important family member, who will also be a close friend and terrible foe.

* The Borg have been useful tools in the past. He might even pretend to work with them again, as long as he can get something out of it.

Unfulifilled Business:

* He's not God. That's a problem.

* You see, time is being all strange and flexible. It's possible to completely destroy the entire timeline... and rebuild it.

* Wouldn't it be great if everything could be destroyed, and he rebuilds the universe and time from scratch?

If they could change two (or more) moments in time...

drbashiripresume: (Blue Uniform)
From: [personal profile] drbashiripresume
Character Name: Julian Bashir
Affilation & Rank (if applicable): Starfleet. Lieutenant. Chief Medical Officer, Deep Space Nine.
Canon Point: Either from some point after “What You Leave Behind” or from before he’s outed as being genetically enhanced depending on what works best for the plot.

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies:

* He’s probably still very much a plaything for Section 31 (whether he knows it or not). Even without Sloan in the picture I don’t think the organisation is quite ready to let go of him. Julian on the other hand is more than happy to wash his hands of the whole business although there is the temptation that he could possibly work against them from the inside that nags at him.

*O’Brien. Bashir and O’Brien’s friendship is great fun and they have a great interplay with one another. It could be interesting if they’re coming at it from slightly different angles this time. If Bashir is from earlier in the timeline he could still be in the stage where he’s trying to get pally with O’Brien (Like earlier DS9 episodes like “The Storyteller”) whereas the older O’Brien has already seen through the gee whizz facade that the younger Bashir puts on.

* Dax. Depending on the point in his timeline he’s crushing on Jadzia, moved on to being friends or is still exploring a pretty new relationship with Ezri.

Garak. Another fun relationship. Especially the lies.

Unfulfilled Business:

There’s definitely unresolved family issues with Bashir. He’s kind of made peace with what his family had done to him but he definitely still has a lot of baggage in that area he hasn’t come to terms with or just tries to ignore.

If they could change two (or more) moments in time...

Who is Bashir really? How much of who he is down to the fact he was genetically modified? How much of him is really him when you get down to it?

Canon Crew Registration: Deanna Troi

Date: 2016-07-13 03:56 am (UTC)
From: [personal profile] 2_worlds_1_woman
Character Name: Deanna Troi

Affilation & Rank (if applicable): Starfleet. Commander. Head Counselor on the Enterprise-E and said department head; if anyone wants to play another counselor, even one of the other heads from novels that take place after she's left with Riker, please contact me? it will help me keep things straight. :) A list of canonical ones from novels, and some details about the department (lie the fact she doesn't wear a uniform to help put those she counsels at ease unti she can't stand NOT wearing one any longer) is here.

Canon Point: one or two versions of her may show up very briefly, but the main one is very shortly after Insurrection

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies:
- Riker. Need I say more? Troi is from after Insurrection. Just to make things more fun..

- Her mother. Again, I don’t feel I need to say more

- She still mourns the loss of her child from season 2

- She also mourns Tasha still; it's fair to say, based on episodes, they were best friends.

- Crusher is another best friend.

- Aaaand there's Worf. I suggest the Worf player read Imazdi II: Triangle for info on their breakup.

Unfulifilled Business:

* Everything listed above; I'd prefers Imzadi's way myself, M

* fixing things with Worf so they're truly friends

* Desires for both marriage and a child, in no particular order, with Riker

* Her own beliefs which are modified, from her experiences, from those that are pure Betazoid. (Plus, human dad.) Betazoid culture in general I'm constructing from very little canon. I’ve been working on their religion, mythology, and philosophy at the moment; an example of what I’ve done can be seen here. The entirety, along with the trait belonging to each of the 13 houses (I only had to make up 5 of the 13) is here, for future Betazoid players, though not all will be up untill the end of the week. An example of some of it was put in a thread here.

* Possibly things related to the other Betazoid houses.

* Things related to being a daughter of the 5th House.

* More positive results than crashing the ship when she's in charge on the bridge would be reeeeeaally nice

Character Background Up to the Canon Point: Iyran Kor is a Chaan (strong male) Andorian member of the powerful Kor clan on Andoria. Shortly after graduating school with high marks, he married three individuals who he had classes with: Eres Aldin (the shen of the partnership, roughly strong female); Nya P'Trell (the zhen of the partnership, mildly androgynous female); and M'grai Ivos (the thaan of the partnership, mildly androgynous male). All four entered Starfleet together: Kor entered command; Aldin entered science; P'Trell entered medical; and Ivos entered communication and linguistics. They had a single offspring: Kiran (chaan gender), born aboard the U.S.S. Falconer. A second offspring was expected, but due to an accident, was not delivered.

Kor and his spouses served aboard the U.S.S. Falconer. Kor earned several distinctions, including the Cochrane Medal of Excellence for his actions in the Orion Nebula, and the Star Cross for his actions along the Tholian border. His spouses similarly earned multiple distinctions.

On Stardate 40728.2, the Falconer encountered a cosmic anomaly that hit the vessel out of nowhere and caused significant damage. Ivos was killed instantly when his comm station exploded. Aldin was severely injured. P'Trell attempted to rescue Aldin, but was unable to get her offboard. Kor was injured and removed to a shuttlecraft. P'Trell and Aldin were still onboard when the containment field on the Falconer ruptured; all still aboard, including Kiran, were lost.

Kor took a period of leave following the deaths of his spouses and child. He was given the option to be honorably discharged, but he refused. He has been transferred now to the U.S.S. Anubis.

What Notable Postings/Duties Did Your Character Have? Section 31. In her youth, she was a slave in a Romulan general's household. Who was given to Dr. Soong in an attempt to manipulate him and keep an eye on him. Soong, of course, turned those tables.
Canon Point: USS Anubis disappearance And various other points in the Star Trek timeline in various disguises because of the whole temporal spy thing.

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies: The crew of the Anubis was to be her redemption and last chance to leave the past wholly behind and manage her competing loyalties. In that sense, it failed on every level.

Her affiliation with the Soong family is actually painful and a constant reminder of failure and and the compromises she made to work at Section 31. She really did walk in feeling that it was the best way to never see anything like Yar's slavery and torture and to stem a new kind of insanity from sweeping the galaxy. Instead, she became a part and perpetrator of the insanity. Also, due to the constant tinkering in time, the timeline with those events may never have actually happened. It's her memory against the galaxy.

Her last name of "Ray," started as a reminder. Now, it's punishment.

Unfulfilled Business: Her whole life qualifies.
If they could change two (or more) moments in time...Same.

Character Name: T'Espara
Affilation & Rank (if applicable): Federation, Lieutenant
Character Background Up to the Canon Point: T'Espara is a young Vulcan woman. As a child she was orphaned due to a shuttle accident her parents were both it. This left her slightly damaged for a Vulcan but due to the care by several distant relations she grew up just fine.

She went against family tradition and instead attended the Vulcan Institute for Defensive Arts. She excelled there and was at the top of her class when she ended up following at least one family tradition. She went through with an arranged marriage.

She and Tarek had known each other since they were children. It was thought they would do well together. When T'Espara decided to go attend Starfleet Academy it was only natural that he followed after her.

They both did very well. T'Espara found she had a knack for Security. She had severed on a few ships as a junior officer. What earned her the rank of Lieutenant was her time served on a station out near the Orion sector. She helped solve several difficult cases involving theft, stolen identities, and a few murders brought to the station. The one murder she couldn't solve that happened on board the station bothers her to this day. She feels as if she missed a fact or clue.
She and her husband transferred to the USS Anubis each hoping to gain more experience with non-Vulcan crews. They also prefer ships. Life on board the station felt too cluttered to them.

If they could change two (or more) moments in time...

Whoo boy howdy. But she has learned that her mistakes paved the path that took her to her triumphs. She has - mostly - made peace with them. Going back and dying with her teacher as she should have would not have saved any of the lives she saved later. Though it might have staved off war....

Affilation & Rank (if applicable): Starfleet, Senior Chief Petty Officer

Canon Point: Post-Dominion War. He and his family were trying to decide where to live on Earth while he took up a post as a teacher at Starfleet Academy.

Worf had suggested Minsk.

Interesting Moments, Relationships, and Enemies:

ALL of the events in DS9, his friendship with Julian, the Cardassian War.

Unfulifilled Business:
